They also feature carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.

It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
